Thanks GarlandRaven, glad you like the game! The intro sequence was indeed animated with Flash (or Animate as it's now known) before being downscaled to a size that would fit the TO8. You can see the original animation at the beginning of the trailer.
I'm impressed both for how that wiped out the obsolescence of these machines, making them look like modern niche pos, and for the speed at you are moving so much data (16K if i'm right). Games like this make you reevaluate the limits of the machine every time.

la version ZX me semble pas mal du tout (vis à vis des possibilités graphiques de la machine). Et là il n'y a plus que 8ko à scroller.
That version was so acclaimed, Pape wrote all about its development here:
http://www.bizzley.com/Page 51 of the book is very detailed about screen rendering.
I still have to understand if it's possible do something like that on the MOTOs using black masks, scrolling chunks only at upper and lower borders, calculating the chunks to move them every let's say 32 frames (like the Konami shooters on MSX) and making other sacrifices.
If I had to ask you why the Speccy could afford certain games and our beloved MOTOs no (or not at first glance), what would you answer? My little piece of speculation is mainly because of the Z80's speed, but i don't know the machine as well as you and that's why i'm asking
